First or Third?

The comments from the last post (thank you for commenting!) brought me to a follow up question for today...

You want to read a novel that pulls you in, but would you rather read a story in first or third person? Many people can relate more with a character when he presents himself/herself in first person.

Two Questions Continued...

To be more specific on the two questions, I was getting at what a reader wants to see in a fiction novel.
Many writers have a hard time knowing what readers want to see in their work. What makes the difference between throwing a book aside after two chapters or being glued so that you can't put the book down? What, in specific, makes you want to keep reading?

1. What do you look for in a book?
2. What are you interested in reading?
